Your First Visit
Paperwork
Upon entering the office, we have some brief paperwork for you to fill out. The paperwork provides us with general information about yourself and your condition. You can save time (20 minutes in our office) by downloading these forms and filling them out prior to your first visit. Click here to download New Patient Forms.
Consultation
Once your paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, goals, as well as potential treatment options. You will also learn about our approach to wellness care at our office.
History & Examination
In order to determine what your actual problem is and if you are a candidate for chiropractic care at our office, our team will ask you various questions related to your condition and conduct a thorough health history and chiropractic exam. The doctor will perform a complete chiropractic, neurological and orthopedic exam to identify potential underlying complications in your health. We will also administer tests to detect and pinpoint
abnormal function and neuro-vascular complication in the spine which cannot be seen on x-ray, through our state of the art Millenium Subluxation scans. These tests will measure:
- sEMG - the amount of electrical current in the muscles
- Thermography- skin temperature along the spine
- ROM evaluation - range of movement of the spine
- orthopedic testing - determines facet or disc involvement
- neurological testing - deep tendon reflexes and strength tests
- leg length analysis - postural distortions
- palpation - edema, taut and tender fibers, decreased joint motion, and myospasm
X-ray
Your specific condition may require us to take x-rays to either rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. If the doctor determines that you have an atlas subluxation, five specialized upper cervical x-ray views are taken to calculate the appropriate and uniquely specific angles necessary to correct your spinal alignment and optimize your health potential.
Home Instructions
Prior to leaving Atlas Family Chiropractic, you will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches.
Report of Findings
Once the doctor has determined that you indeed are a candidate for upper cervical (atlas) care at our office, you will be scheduled for a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit and first adjustment. Typically our new patients are seen within 1-2 days of their initial new patient exam and are provided with a thorough and complete verbal and written Report of Findings by the doctor. At this appointment if other treatment options are necessary for your condition they will also be discussed with you at this time.
